Sandhyrani JAC demands justice, decries police inaction

Imphal, August 11, 2014:
Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the brutal killing of Sandhyarani Devi, (26), wife of M.Suraj alias Abung, (28), of Naransena Mamang Leikai under Moirang police station, Bishnupur district, has resolved not to claim the dead body of the deceased until the culprit involved in the crime be arrested by the police and be punished according to the law.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, joint secretary of the JAC, W.Nandakeshore told that the case of the brutal killing had already been registered to the concerned police station but no concrete actions have been taken up for arresting the culprit so far.
Seeing inaction from the side of the police, the JAC has resolved to launch various forms of stringent agitation to seek the demands.
Further the JAC urged the state government to provide necessary compensation to the three year-old daughter of the deceased.
It may be noted here that Sandhyarani was found killed and her dead body found near her sister-in-law Aruni, w/o Krishna Soibam house's situated at Naransena Mamang Leikai on August 10. A missing report of Sandhyarani was given to her mother by her mother-in-law.
Upon search conducted by her mother and the other family members, the lifeless body of Sandhyarani was found in a suspicious manner among the bushes near Aruni's house.
It may also be cited here that just after Sandhyarani was found death, her husband, Suraj went into hiding and his family members' never co operated during the search operation conducted by Sandhyarani's family which creates room for suspicion of the involvement of the family in the murder.
The whereabouts of Suraj who is absconding is still unknown and police have not been able to trace him yet.
Accused Suraj alias Abung is serving as Territorial Army and posted at Leimakhong 57 Mountain Division, B Company.
