Imphal, March 11 2015:
The 34th foundation day of the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) was held on March 7 at New Katang village, Tousem Subdivision of Tamenglong district.
The President of ZYF, "Pou Titus Kamei" while addressing the function reminded the Zeliangrong youth leaders that the main factor which has led to the present situation in Zeliangrong areas is due to the existence of too many organizations claiming themselves to be apex body thereby rendering the people into complete insecurity, a press note said on Wednesday.
There are rising cases of infighting among villagers, inter-village feuds, filing cases in law courts pertaining to village issues and also presence of other atmosphere in Zeliangrong areas which may make people suffering, it said.
The President appealed particularly to all the youths to decide what would be good and best for the future of the society and called upon the leaders of different organizations that time has come to sink their personal differences in order to free the people from such situation.
He said that the decision-making body based on Zeliangrong Naga traditional system consisting of mainly older persons known as the "tribe apex body" has now fragmented into two bodies thereby heading into two direction with each passing day creating confusion to the general public as to whom any complaints or grievances relating to different problems of people should be lodged or highlighted.
"It is the inescapable responsibility of the youths today to bring the two organizations together into one single body at the earliest in consultation with the people in order to make a vibrant, effective and a strong tribe based apex body.
There is no reason for these different organizations to remain divided if it is for the welfare and interest of the people, Titus urged.
The function was also attended by deputy speaker of United Naga Council (UNC) Pou KB Aduan, former ZYF President, Pou Namdinang Daimai, former ZYF chairman, Pou Luikam Newmai and a host of former ZYF members.
Interaction participated by elders, village authority members from diferent villages of Tamei areas and New Katang, was held after winding up of the ZYF foundation day celebration.
The villagers put up the issue regarding the plan of the NEEPCO to construct dams in Zeliangrong areas particularly at Pabram village and Irang village.
The villagers also expressed surprised at to how the State Government without the prior, well informed and consent of the land owners had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NEEPCO for the projects.
The villagers also learnt that the consent had been given by members of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) and hence the villagers strongly objected and rejected it as the ADC members or other any authority has no legal, customary or traditional rights to give away any parts or portion of village land without the consent of the land owners and people, the press note said.
The villagers appealed to the social orgnizations leaders to look into the matter and do the needful, it said.
