Imphal, October 10 2024:
The four members of Youth of Manipur (YoM), who were arrested by a team of Imphal police station on charge of inciting public unrest through Facebook live streaming, have been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days on Thursday even as Porompat police formally arrested them in connection with another case registered at the PS.
The arrested YoM members are Lourembam Rambo alias Sinthanganba (26), son of Chandra of Langthabal, Maisnam Robinson alias Thawanjao (21), son of Robindro of Kangmong Maisnam Leikai, Tekcham Vishal alias Athoiba (24), son of late Gambhir of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai , and Huidrom Tomthil (36), son of Nandakumar of Singjamei Sapam Leikai.
They were produced before the court of CJM Imphal West on Thursday with a prayer for judicial remand.
As per report of the investigating officer, participants of a protest rally organised by YoM against arrest of transgender activist Malem Thongam on October 5, tried to march towards Babupara (hyper-sensitive zone) from Singjamei side.
YoM relayed the rally live on Facebook and incited the public to join the protest against the government and police.
Imphal PS registered a suo-moto case and arrested the four in the course of the investigation.
The IO report said that all the four are habitual offenders and they may intimidate prosecution witnesses or commit pre-judicial activities if released on bail.
Moreover, they are also involved in other FIRs registered at Imphal PS.
Huidrom Tomthil submitted that he is not a member of YoM and sought bail.
However, after hearing both sides, the Court remanded the four to judicial custody for 15 days.
Porompat PS also made an appeal to make formal arrest of the four in connection with a case registered with the PS, which the court approved.
The court also agreed to consider the bail application of Tomthil as regular bail in the next hearing.
