HCV advocacy campaign kicks off

Imphal, July 10 2014:
Under the joint aegis of Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) and Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur, a year-long Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Advocacy Campaign has begun from today.
The campaign is being organised in connection with World Hepatitis Day.
The inaugural function of the campaign held at Manipur Press Club here was attended by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, who is also Secretary of Manipur Legislative Forum on HIV & AIDS (MLFA) as chief guest; Dr Sasheekumar Mangang, Joint Director of Directorate of Health Services as functional president and Sailesh Kumar Chourasia, Project Director of MACS as Guest of Honor.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ibohalbi stressed on the need for giving more awareness and taking up intervention programme on HCV as HIV and HCV co-infection have become a serious threat to the society.
Though the rate of infection of HIV/AIDS has decreased during the last couple of years among the IDUs, the rate of HIV and HCV co-infection has increased at a considerable level, he noted.
