Reinstating Biren would worsen crisis: CPI

CPI Manipur State Council secretary, L Thoirel has warned that if the Centre reinstates N Biren Singh as chief minister of Manipur, the state will face an even more challenging situation, and stressed the need for a new government with a fresh mandate.
Addressing media persons at Irawat Bhawan, here on Monday, Thoirel contended that the state has been facing socio political instability for a long time due to administrative failure and inefficiency in addressing core issues.
"Democracy in Manipur has lost its meaning now," he said, criticising the BJP for ruling without regard for the state's history with many politicians in the state failing to honour their ideologies.
According to L Thoirel, a fresh mandate of the people is urgently required to establish a new administrative system which honours democratic institutions and democratic values or else chaotic situation in the state will continue.
Joining the media briefing, CPI Manipur State Council former secretary L Sotinkumar opined that chief minister N Biren Singh tendered resignation due to realisation of imminent defeat in case no-confidence motion was moved.
"If the Centre reinstates N Biren Singh as chief minister of the state while keeping the state assembly in animated suspension, it would only lead to a situation retrieving from which would be impossible," he warned, reiterating the need for a fresh mandate as people of the state no longer trust the BJP .
