Imphal, September 09 2024:
In a meeting held on Monday, Imagi Meira urged the indigenous people of Manipur to stand united and raise their collective voice against the ongoing crisis in the state.
While expressing disappointment over inept handling of crisis by the state government, the organisation called for decisive action in the face of escalating violence by Kuki militants and Centre's negligence in addressing the repeated attacks on the Meetei community.
A statement of Imagi Meira said that various organisations have been pressuring the state government to address the crisis, and added that silence is no longer an option.
The group called upon the public to demand the state government to assert its authority, despite its perceived limitations imposed by the Centre, and to push for stronger intervention from the Central government.
During the meeting, Imagi Meira resolved to await the decision of the people before deciding the future course of action.
As part of their immediate plan, the group announced a protest at Ima Panthoibi Shanglen in Thangmeiband until the three MPs and 50 indigenous MLAs take a joint resolution to protect the state's interests.
They also demanded the Privilege and Ethics Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to release a preliminary report on the proceedings against the 10 Kuki MLAs abetting the ethnic conflict.
