Imphal, April 09 2022:
International Peace & Social Advancement (IPSA), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) and All Assam Manipuri Youth Association (AAMYA) organised a joint sitting on the theme 'Manipur Socio Economic Security Policy Meet 2022 Phase 1: Assam Manipur Perspective' at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday.
The programme was attend ed by IPSA advisors H Ibotombi Khuman and Kh Chingkhei Luwangcha, AAMYA chief advisor Ksh Kundal Singha, AAMYA president Ch Nabachandra Singha, KSA president Sukham Bidyananda and IPSA president Birjit Tourangbam as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, IPSA vice president Khuraijam Athouba pointed out that Kangleipak (Manipur) was once known for a being strong, self-reliant and powerful nation.
In his book 'The Meitheis', TC Hodson praised Manipur for possessing astounding qualities where even the British Empire could learn from it.
During that period, Manipur produced surplus food and was self-sufficient in every way, but presently the state is in deficit and is in such a situation that people could not breathe, literally, without the help of others.
The per capita income index of Manipur is in the last third position in the country, he pointed out.
Highlighting the need for investigating the reason for such degrading economic situation of the state, he said that it would not be successful in forming socio-economic security policy by overlooking the reasons for the degradation.
With an aim to find out the causes so as to fight it and frame a proper policy, IPSA and KSA jointly organised the sitting as a first phase of 'Assam Manipuri Perspective' to discuss the issues related with Manipuris residing in Assam.
Speaking about the relationship between Manipuri socio-economic security policy and Manipuris settling in Assam, Athouba recalled the relationship between Manipuris and Assam Manipuris and also highlighted the socio-cultural aspect of this relationship.
As there is the need to seriously discuss socio-economic policies taken up by the governments of India, Manipur and Assam for the future of the community, the organisation felt it appropriate to engage AAMYA in discussing and taking up necessary activities, he added.
The joint sitting adopted three resolutions which include providing unconditional support to Assam Manipuris to ensure a socio-economic security policy, extending necessary support and diplomacy to AAMYA in pursuance of their demands for an Autonomous Council.
Lastly, the joint sitting resolved that IPSA, KSA and AAMYA will work together for forming a robust policy so as to ensure socio economic security.
