Imphal, December 08 2024:
Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin (EYOL), Manipur has urged for looking into the excess expenditures being made in traditional Meetei rituals.
In a press meet held at NIPCO's office in Keishamthong on Saturday, EYOL vice-president Longjam Sanathoi Piba urged for reducing the expenses in marriage and other rituals in view of the socio-economic situation of the state.
He further urged all concerned to hold weddings in a traditional manner, while reducing the excessive decorative aspects, cake cutting, video shooting and exchange of rings, and instead following the traditional way of doing things.
He then informed that EYOL is formed by around 27 bodies, and added that preparations have been made to organise mass campaigns in this regard with clubs, Meira Paibi associations and CSOs.
Although the campaign was initially launched some time ago, it was delayed due to the conflict.
He continued to urge all to cut down expenses on external gratification, while also appealing to Arangpham (master of ceremony) to advise families on the same and the Pala groups to perform only for the stipulated duration.
He further urged photographers and videographers to wear the traditional attire (Pheijom) while capturing the moments.
