Ukhrul, October 08 2024:
Taking cognisance of the improvement in law and order in Ukhrul town, the Ukhrul district magistrate has announced relaxation of curfew with'effect from Wednesday from 6 am to 5 pm until further notice.
"Due to the improving law and order situation, there exists a necessity to relax the restriction on the movement of the public," stated an order issued by district magistrate Zuringla Kengoo on Tuesday, informing that restriction of movement of the public out side their residences is lifted in areas within the stretch of Mini Secretariat to PNB, Viewland.
"This order shall remain effective until further orders," it said, adding that the relaxation will not include any public gatherings, sit-in-protests, rallies, etc., without obtaining permission from the competent authority.
The order, however, mentioned that movement of persons belonging to essential services such as health, electricity, CAF&PD, PHED, telecom, banking/financial institutions, ATM cash replenishment, petrol pumps, schools/colleges, press and electronic media, functioning of courts and to and fro movement of flight passengers to airport shall be exempted from imposition of the restriction on the expiry of the said period of the relaxation.
Meanwhile, schools in the district headquarters are set to resume regular classes on Wednesday.
Similarly, commercial establishments and markets from the Mini Secretariat to PNB, Viewland, which had been under restrictions since October 2, are expected to return to normal operations starting tomorrow.
It may be recalled that following a flare-up of conflict between Hunphun and Hungpung villages over land boundary dispute on October 2, the district magistrate had issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2024, imposing restrictions on the movement of individuals outside their residences.
