Governor visits relief camps, distributes relief materials

Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey on Friday visited two relief camps in Imphal West district and distributed relief materials.
The Governor first visited Meitei Langol Leima Khullen Leikai Relief Camp and interacted with the internally displaced persons (IDPs) staying there and enquired about the facilities being provided to them.
She distributed relief materials which include blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets and hygiene kits to all the 50 families from Churachandpur, Tangjeng, Napat and Serou etc.

The Governor also distributed cash assistance to pregnant women and lactating mothers staying in the relief camp, apart from providing eatables, some pocket money as well to the children while a cash assistance of Rs 20,000 was handed over to the relief committee of Langol camp.
Interacting with the IDPs, the Governor stated that the unfortunate incident which started on May 3 has left many people homeless and many valuable lives lost.
She said that such incidents also created hatred among the people of two communities which need to be removed and therefore, the state and central governments are trying best to remove hatred, fear and suspicion from the minds of the people.
The Governor continued that security forces have been deployed in almost all vulnerable areas and steps to nab the miscreants have been taken up.
Condemning all forms of violence, the Governor said that violence will not bring any solution and therefore all should refrain from indulging in violence by taking law into their hands.
All communities have been living together for years and should live together in future too.
She appealed to all the stakeholders to cooperate the government in bringing peace and normalcy in the state.
The Governor further stated that pre-fabricated temporary shelter homes are being built up in different districts and as a temporary measure IDPs will be shifted to these houses.
She assured that once the process for providing compensation to the victims is over and the normalcy returns, they will be shifted to their respective places.
Pointing out that education of the children is very important and steps to enrol all children are being taken up, the Governor said that she is in touch with the president, prime minister, home minister and other central leaders and trying her best to solve the crisis amicably.
The Governor also assured the IDPs of extending all possible assistance in the days to come too.
Later, the Governor went to THAU ground relief cartip where she met with IDPs and heard their grievances.
She assured them of all possible assistance and instructed the district administration to provide all requirements for the people.
She distributed relief materials comprising blanket, mosquito net, kitchen set and hygiene kit to the families from Churachandpur, Torbung Bangla and Moreh who have been taking shelter there.
The Governor also extended cash assistance to pregnant women, lactating mothers and patients with serious ailments who are staying in the relief camp.
She also distributed eatables and pocket money to the children there.
The Governor who is also the president of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur Branch distributed relief materials which were received from IRCS, New Delhi.
