Vehicle lifter arrested, accomplices escape

Imphal, May 08 2022: A team of Bishnupur district police led by sub-inspector Shaktishen on Sunday arrested one Sawmlian Vaiphei (31), s/o Daikhankhual of Torbung bazaar, who was involved in making fake RC and documents of stolen vehicles.

According to the police, various incriminating items including PVC cards, laptop, printer, lamination machine and others were recovered by Bishnupur police from the arrested man, who also revealed that some stolen Honda Activa scooters given to him by one Joy Kumar, a vehicle thieve, was sold through him.

On his disclosure, one Activa scooter was recovered from his house.

Sawmlian further revealed that he along with one Md Boicha and Mujib (earlier arrested in Kumbi PS case) was involved in stealing a TATA Xenon pickup truck (chassis no NAT524005DRN09949) from Irong Cheshaba Makha Leikai which is in the custody of one Lancha Kipgen of New Zalenphai.

The vehicle too was recovered from the gate of Lancha, who, however, escaped from the spot taking advantage of darkness.

The Bishnupur police team then rushed to Irong Ichii to nab prime accused Md Boicha, s/o (L) Md Manappi, but he managed to evade arrest.

Acting on Sawmlian Vaiphei's disclosure, one Duster vehicle suspected to be stolen and used in the commission of crimes by Md Boicha was found parked at a car-wash in front of his house and it was also seized by the police team.

Subsequently, Sawmlian was arrested and from his possession one TATA Xenon pickup truck, one Renault Duster (SUV), one Gypsy (which he used) and one Honda Activa scooter were seized.

The arrested person and seized items were handed over to Bishnupur Police Station.
