Imphal, February 08 2014 :
Noting that racial discrimination against north eastern people has been going in various parts of mainland India, two frontal student organizations namely All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and North East Students' Organization (NESO) have denounced the Chief Minister of the State and other Ministers for remaining silent and not condemning over the alleged rape of a minor girl from Churachandpur at Munirka, Delhi on February 7 night.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at the head office of AMSU here today, Laishram Reagan, Secretary of AMSU, said the various incidents of rape and murder of north eastern people in other parts of India are clear indications that mainland India look down upon the people from the north east.
He pointed out that the issue has been discussed in the Parliament but no corrective measures have been taken up so far to curb the menace of racial discrimination against people of Northeast region.
He then questioned why the State Government is afraid of even condemnation such incident.
Sinam Prakash, secretary of NESO, who was also present during the press meet, informed that a meeting of NESO will be held at Guwahati on February 10 to discuss future course of action to be taken up.
He also demanded award of life imprisonment or death penalty to the rapist of the minor girl.
