'Centre, state should be held responsible for rocket attack'

Strongly denouncing the attack launched by Kuki militants by firing an unguided rocket bomb at the residence of first elected chief minister of Manipur and freedom fighter Mairembam Koireng in Moirang Mairembam Leikai on Friday that led to death of an elderly person and injury to five others, the Mairembam Koireng Memorial Trust has categorically stated that both the state and central governments should be held responsible for the attack.
Speaking to media persons at the residence of M Koireng on Saturday, executive member of the Trust H Sarat pointed out that Koireng took vital roles in hoisting the tricolour for the first time on the Indian soil in Moirang on April 14, 1944 .
He denounced the attack by Kuki militants using unguided rocket bomb by Kuki militants leading to death of one Rk Rabei and injuring five others including a girl.
Stating that the failure to end the communal conflict that erupted in Manipur on May 3 last year is because of the weakness of the BJP government both in the state and at the centre, he said that people are today in a constant dilemma and living life like a fish in a fishbowl.
He also informed that the 'Asti' ceremony of Mairembam Ongbi Ibeyaima scheduled to perform on Sunday will not be conducted because of the Friday's attack.
The press conference was also attended by other executive members of the Trust namely K Mohindro, Y Modhu, M Ibopishak and M Kumar.
