Imphal, September 07 2021:
National People's Party (NPP) will decide on whether or not to continue its partnership with BJP in or after the 2022 state assembly election when party president Conrad Sangma arrives in Imphal on September 11 .
This was disclosed by NPP Manipur working president and Keishamthong MLA L Jayantakumar during a reception ceremony hosted in honour of former IMC Ward No.9 mayor Seram Sunil and former IMC Ward No.11 member Mongjam Arunkumar.
Both Sunil and Amnkumar joined NPP on Tuesday and a simple reception ceremony for them was hosted at Jayantakumar's farmhouse at Ngariyan Uchekon.
Responding to a query raised by media persons during the ceremony, Jayantakumar said that Conrad Sangma will arrive here on September 11 and discuss all-election related issues including number of party candidates to be fielded and whether to continue partnership with BJP in the election or not.
The NPP president will also discuss with state leaders about programmes and policies of the party to be chalked out before the election, he added.
Almost all the small political parties of the state seem to have disappeared now and only BJP, INC and NPP and NPF in the hills exist prominently in Manipur.
NPP cannot claim to be the biggest political force but the party could play key role in the 2022 election and might even become a power house, Jayantakumar said, adding that the party expects to get 10-15 seats in the 2022 state assembly election.
Election is a number game in democracy and there has been no talk of having pre-poll alliance as of now.
Whether to make alliance or not depend on the wish of the single largest party after the election and NPP will work accordingly.
It is a good sign that more people are joining NPP and the party is gaining strength in Keishamthong AC and the state as well, he said, adding that NPP will gain more strength in near future.
According to Jayantakumar, election related activities are increasing nowadays and more energetic people are joining the party after understanding party's potential and more will follow suit in near future.
Regarding development in Keishamthong AC, Jayantakumar claimed that roads, drinking water supply, electricity and health sectors have improved significantly during the past four years.
