Imphal, December 05 2024:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the disappearance/abduction of Laishram Kamalbabu from inside the heavily fortified 57th Mountain Division Headquarters, Leimakhong and his family have decided to take the case to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh directly.
The JAC and the family met Chief Minister N Biren and urged the Chief Minister to take up intensive and effective measures to trace the whereabouts of Laishram Kamalbabu.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club after their meeting with the Chief Minister, JAC spokesman Moirangthem Ibopishak said that they held a meeting with N Biren at the initiative of Sekmai AC MLA H Dingo at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
The JAC and the family highlighted their grievances, fears and demands to the Chief Minister.
They urged N Biren to hand over the case of Laishram Kamalbabu to the NIA and ensure that the investigating agency launches a thorough investigation promptly, Ibopishak said.
It is a matter of grave concern that neither the 57th Mountain Division nor the State Government has found a clue regarding the whereabouts of Kamalbabu even though it has been 10 days since he disappeared inside the heavily fortified military station, he decried.
Kamalbabu went to work inside Leimakhong military station only after he was given a written assurance for his safety and security by the army authority, he said.
The JAC spokesman produced the written assurance given by the army authority to Kamalbabu before the media persons.
As Kamalbabu went to work inside the 57th Mountain Division Headquarters with the army authority's assurance for his personal safety and security and he disappeared from inside the heavily fortified military camp, the army authority cannot shirk responsibility, he asserted.
He maintained that the Indian Army must take the primary responsibility of searching and rescuing Laishram Kamalbabu.
However, the Indian Army has shown little interest in taking the responsibility of searching for the missing man.
This is unacceptable to the worried family and the JAC, the spokesman asserted.
It is a matter of grave concern that the army authority seems to be passing the responsibility of searching Laishram Kamalbabu to the State Government and the State Police.
The State Government must take serious note of such irresponsible attitude of the army authority and take the matter to the higher authority, Ibopishak said.
He went on to ask how long the family of Kamalbabu would live in a state of deep anxiety and tension without knowing whether he is still alive or dead.
He further asked how Government leaders and top army officers would react if the case of Kamalbabu happened to their families.
Expressing keen desire for the people to intensify the ongoing agitation until Kamalbabu is found, Ibopishak said that the JAC and the family would seek an appointment with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in order to highlight the case of Laishram Kamalbabu.
"We also appeal to the Chief Minister to help the JAC in securing an appointment with the Defence Minister at the earliest", he said.
The JAC and the family have also made necessary preparations to join hands with Manipuri students and people residing in Delhi to launch strong protest demonstrations at Delhi until Kamalbabu is rescued safely, he added.
Kamalbabu's wife Laishram (O) Belarani said that she made a fervent appeal to Chief Minister N Biren to see that her husband is rescued safely.
She also expressed faith that the Government and the relevant authorities would certainly rescue her husband safely.
