Imphal, October 05 2024:
Deeply concerned over the deteriorating conduction of the National Highway-2 (Imphal -Dimapur Road) in Nagaland section which hampers transportation of essential goods into the state, Manipur Drivers" Association (MDA) has appealed to the Government of Manipur to communicate with the Nagaland government for repairing the deplorable portions of the road.
MDA general secretary Kshetrimayum Sanajaoba told media persons that incessant rain in the past few days and subsequent landslides on both Imphal- Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam roads have caused severe inconvenience to trucks transporting goods into the state.
Presently, a massive landslide that occurred at Zabra near Nagaland capital Kohima, which is being used as dumping site by local people, has led to stranding of many trucks.
Under the aegis of North East Federation of Trade Union, MDA in coordination with Kohima Drivers' Association, Dimapur District Drivers' Union, Senapati Truck Drivers' Union, Senapati District Truck Owners' Association and Kharkhati Drivers' Union repaired the road at the landslide area using machineries of Nagaland government's PWD on September 18 and October 4 .
However, the NH-2 at the area remains deplorable and trucks could not ply still.
As trucks bound for Manipur remain stranded in Nagaland, prices of essential commodities and other goods have hiked in the state, he said and appealed to business men not to hike prices of goods by taking advantage of the situation.
