Districts join World Environment Day observance

As in other parts of the world, World Environment Day was observed by various groups, individuals, departments, institutions and organisations in all districts of the state on Sunday.
In Jiribam, Friendly Environment Warriors' (FEW) observed the day at Kasturba Girls' High School with a public rally taken from the school to Ema Keithel, Jiribam and planting of saplings.
The observance was also held across Kakching district with varied programmes.
Wabagai MLA Dr Usham Deben in association with range forest officer, Kakching and club, organisations of Wabagai assembly constituency (AC) observed the day.
Similar observance programme was also organised by Hiyanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam along with several clubs and organisations of his AC.
The organisations/institutes which observed the day included Kakching Municipal Council; Pole Star College Hiyanglam Wabagai National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit I and II; Students' Library Association (SLA) Kakching and Grace Cottage Cultural and Educational Foundation (Grace Cottage Academy) Kakching; Kakching High School 1984 Matric Batch; Kha Manipur Yoga and Nature Cure Association Kakching; Pravabati College Mayang Imphal Department of Environment Science under the sponsorship of CT Higher Secondary School Mayang Imphal, Maiyon Enterprises and Geo Environment Technical Service; Kha Manipur College Kakching, Sahitya Seva Sami-ti Kakching, Macha Chanu Kakching, Library and Information Centre Kakching and Sahitya Thoupang Lup (Sathoulup) Imphal; Kakching Police in association with Wabagai Bazaar Board, Sugnu Municipality, Sugnu Youth Clubs, SAL, KSO Gun pi, KhSO, Zillai, ZYO, shopkeepers, etc; Isha Volunteers Manipur in collaboration with solo walker environmentalist Manikanta Mutum; Golden Pillar Club, Uchiwa Mamang Leikai's youth wing MEEROL and Unique Wildlife Protection Committee (UWLPC), Manipur in association with Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB), Manipur and Sadu Chiru Village chief Droikha with JCCWB members.
The events were marked with sapling plantations, cleanliness drives, symposium, poetry recitation based on environment and presentation of Ningombam Pheiraba Award by Sathoulup to Alliance for Development Alternatives Manipur (ADAM) secretary and Angaan Ching Eco Park Management Committee co-ordinator Surjit Kshetrimayum.
Similarly in Thoubal district, the day was observed by DIG Range (II) Ningsham Worngam and his staff; Kekru Yairi Club Yairipok and Kekru Ideal Progressive Committee; Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Lai Committee, Top Chingtha and Top Chingtha Veteran Football Association; Leisu and Kangleipak Bonsai Association (KABA); Moirangthem Jamini Devi along with 12 other elderly women; VCPC-Manipur with former MLA Yumkhaibam Antas Khan and Yairipok Universal College.
The observance saw large-scale plantation of saplings in various areas of the district.
