Loktak Experience Project to boost tourism amenities

The Loktak Lake Experience Project, which will be implemented under the Special Assistance to States/UTs for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme at the cost of Rs 89.48 crore, aims to boost tourism amenities in the Loktak Lake.
The proposed development of the tourist destination around Loktak Lake, including the village of Moirang, Thanga, and Takmu, will blend eco-friendly infrastructure with sustainable tourism practices.
The Loktak Lake project is envisioned to elevate the ecological, cultural, and adventure tourism potential of Loktak Lake, a globally recognised destination, and its surrounding areas, including the village of Moirang, Thanga and Takmu.
The project focuses on creating a sustainable tourism model that enhances the visitor experience while preserving the unique biodiversity and traditional way of life in these regions.
The major component of the project is development of the luxury resort at Moirang including main block and cafe, cottages, conference block, recreation block, signage, gazebos, promenade development, parking and waste management, development of Marine Experience Zone at Takmu Island including 'glamping' infrastructure, Loktak observation tower, zip line Loktak swing static hot balloon, e-cycles, cultural performance arena, visitor centre, parking and site development and development of land based adventure zone at Thanga Island including floating cafeteria with submarine view deck, 'Hiyang Hiren' rides on designated trails, water sport equipment, wetland and marine life interpretation centre within visitors amenities, phumdi walking trail experience, parking, promenade development, landscaping and site development.
The project is expected to create jobs for 187 people, while five PPP projects worth Rs 317.57 crore are anticipated.
Expected PPP projects include adventure and water sports activities, eco-tourism expansion, a Yamuna River cruise, dormitory accommodations and a temple waste management system.
