People with physical disabilities under the banner of All Manipur United Disables' Organisation (AMUDO) are planning to stage a rally on April 8 to highlight their plight.
Besides the rally, a memorandum containing various demands would also be handed over to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, said AMUDO vice chairman Momo Tangtanga while speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today.
The memorandum cum ultimatum would demand various benefits entitled to the physically challenged section of the society, appoint a full-fledged Commission headed by an IAS officer having wide knowledge and experience on issues concerning welfare of the physically challenged persons and effective implementation of Physically Disability Act 1995 and national Trust Act 1999, explained the vice chairman.
He also regretted that inspite of the State Cabinet passing a resolution in January for appointing a Disability Commissioner the incumbent is yet to be officially announced.
In other States the said Commissioners have already been appointed, added Momo.
