Legal Awareness begins

A two-day long Legal Awareness Programme organized by Manipur State Commission for Women in collaboration with College of Social Work, Uchekon under the sponsorship of National Commission for Women, New Delhi has commenced from today at Ema Lai Khulembi Mandop, Khurai.
The inaugural function was graced by Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, MLA of Khurai A/C and Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board as Chief Guest; Dr L Ibetombi Devi, Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women as President while June Rose Vaiphei, member of Manipur State Commission for Women; H Piteswori Devi, member of Manipur State Commission for Women; S Saratkumar Sharma, retd Director of Social Welfare Dept, Govt of Manipur and Th Manihar Singh, retd Director of Loktak Development Authority, Govt of Manipur as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ng Bijoy stated that it is important to understand the rights of women in divorce case as law provides certain privileges to women in this regard and stressed on the need for adopting measures to curb violence against women.
Dr Ibetombi asserted that women need to be well educated and understand various legal rights in today's world as these will help in coping rape cases and atrocities against women.
S Meghachandra Sharma, Advocate and ex-Member Secretary of Manipur State Commission for Women and N Jeevanmala Devi, Chairman of College of Social Work, Manipur were among the Resource Persons who spoke on different related topics on the first day of the awareness programme.
