1 held in connection with bomb blast at MLA's gate; mass protest held

Imphal, November 03 2015: One Nepali woman identified as Sanu Chiru (38), wife of Khamba Chiru of Sangaithel was arrested on Tuesday by a team of Yairipok Police led by SDPO Yairipok, S Hemanta in connection with the bomb blast which occurred at the residential gate of Wangkhem A/C MLA K Meghachandra on Monday at around 9.20 pm.

Police sources said that Sanu Chiru is at present residing at Hatta, Yairipok Colony.

The two persons who were killed at the bomb blast have now been identified as Md Daulad Khan (22), son of late Atao Rehman of Yairipok Tulihal Heirok Leirak and Nameirakpam Boboi (23), son of N Sarat of Yairipok Poiroukhongjin.

Both of them were also said to be living in rented rooms at Hatta Golapati, Yairipok Colony.

Sources said that Nameirakpam Boboi's mother N Tombi (45) has also been picked up by the Yairipok Police for interrogation.

Meanwhile, condemning the bomb blast, large number of people from Wangkhem A/C including 'meira paibis' and club members staged a sit-in protest and organised a public meeting at the residential gate of MLA Keisham Meghachandra on Tuesday.

Strongly condemning the blast, a protester said that the blast could have claimed many more lives had the bomb exploded when the MLA was at home.

Demanding a clarification from those responsible for it, the protesters urged the authorities for action so that such act will not be repeated in future.

MLA Meghachandra also denied having any knowledge of the persons responsible for the blast.

Condemning the blast, he also denied receiving any "warning or demand" from any banned organisations.
