Vendors held with drugs, explosive materials

Imphal East District Police seized illegal drugs such as opium and heroin along with raw materials for making explosives from two vendors in Senapati district.
Briefing media persons at his office on Wednesday, Imphal East SP M Pradip informed that on receipt of reliable information, a special police team of the district conducted checking and frisking operation at Tribal Market area in New Checkon at around 9.20am.During the operation, the team seized 2.70 kg of heroin from one Veineichong Khongsai (36) w/o Zangminlan Khongsai of Singda Kuki Village, along with 2 keypad mobile phones, Rs 5000 in cash and an Aadhaar card of the arrestee.
On questioning, Veineichong revealed that she was to hand over the heroin to a woman in Senapati.
The team immediately informed the police control room and then moved towards Senapati With Veineichong's help, RK Poukhurou (50) d/o RT Khu of Senapati Khamsom, Karong, a dry fish vendor in Senapati Bazar was detained.
Upon searching her vendor spot, the police team recovered around 1.3 kg of opium, 13gm of suspected heroin and several raw materials use in making explosives including 30 gelatine sticks, 86 detonators, one 18ft long cortex wire, 11 wrapped papers containing 3 detonators and a 6ft long cut piece of cortex wire, 2 mobile phones, Aadhaar card of the arrestee and Rs 5050 in cash.
According to RK Poukhurou, the seized explosive items were brought from one unknown official working for a road construction agency in Willong, Senapati district and sold to prospective buyers at double the rate.
It is highly suspected that the buyers could be underground organisations/outlawed outfits, Pradip conveyed.
Both the seized items and the arrested women have been handed over to Porompat PS for further course of legal action, he added.
