Vendors resolve to skip LS polls

Manipur Keithel Phambi Apunba Lup has resolved that women vendors will not take part in the ensuing Lok Sabha election until the present conflict is resolved and normalcy restored in the state.
Speaking to media persons at Khwairamband Keithel No 2, here, on Tuesday, Lup general secretary Y Ibeyaima noted that instead of frequent violent armed clashes ever since the conflict broke out on May 3 last year, there has been a lull weeks before formal announcement of the election schedules.
While opining cessation of violence could be outcome of the impending elections, she asserted that mothers of Manipur will never forget harrowing incidents that unfolded during the conflict.
She also regretted that some people are indulging in election campaigning forgetting the unsettling situation besieging the state.
While reiterating that mothers of Manipur are deeply worried with suffering of the people, she declared that the vendors will not take part in the election which has been thrusted upon the people.
Pointing out that in the valley areas, central forces can arrest anyone, which is not the case in hill areas, she decried such acts are discriminatory and ill-motivated.
The general secretary further maintained that anyone can win the election as everyone is equal to them.
However, people should ask themselves whether Meetei community is alive or dead.
