Imphal, December 31 2021:
Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) observed 'Kangleipak Ki Yelhoumee Gi Numit' at Manipur Press Club here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, IPAK president Kshetrimayum Somorendro reminded the gathering that it was FREINDS alone which initiated intense movements forimplementation of ILP system in the state from December, 2005.After more than one and half decades of unceasing movement, the central government declared in December, 2019 that ILP system will be implemented in the state and accordingly Manipur government issued gazette notification for ILP implementation on January 1, 2020.FREINDS is now renamed as IPAK and 'Kangleipak Ki Yelhoumee Gi Numit' is being observed in honour of the role played by FREINDS volunteers towards ensuring implementation of ILP system in the state since 2005.Some of the volunteers are no more now but they are being honoured during the observance function by presenting certificates to their respective family members, Somorendro said, adding that it was due to contributions of FREINDS volunteers that the state now has an ILP system which may be complete or incomplete.
He then urged government to take steps to make the ILP system in the state fully operational so that entry of outsiders could be regulated effectively.
While asserting that ever the increasing influx of outsiders is of concern to the indigenous people of Manipur, Somorendro said that it is easy to identify non-Manipuris coming other states of India but those coming from Myanmar and Bangladesh who have similar physical traits with people of Manipur are difficult to isolate.
This indeed is a cause of concern for the future of indigenous people of the land, he said and stressed the need for both the government and people to take utmost precaution for preventing unregulated entry of outsiders, both from India and neighbouring countries.
JCILPS former convener Heikrujam Ibotombi Khuman and FREINDS and IPAK founder president and JCILPS founder convener Sapamcha Jadumani also attended the observance function.
