Imphal, August 30 2021:
Taking a swipe at the Governments in both the Centre and the State, General secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Hareshwar Goshwami has stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is only good at renaming already existing schemes and bragging.
Addressing a one day political conference held under the theme 'Role of Youths in Politics' at Lamlai, he continued that the intent of the saffron party has always been to sway people with empty promises.
Asking if the BJP has fulfilled its promise of depositing money to the bank account of every Indian and giving job opportunities to lakhs of unemployed youths, he maintained that the other trait of the saffron party is showing off as they publicise whatever little they have done.
"BJP is a party which has honey in the mouth and poison in the heart," Hareshwar Goshwami added.
When it comes to changing scheme names, BJP is an expert, he said and claimed that DPR preparation for the recently inaugurated Makru Bridge was already completed during the term of the previous Government in 2016 .
He further maintained that the incumbent State Government managed to construct Makru bridge and few foot bridges in four and a half years, but Congress constructed 80 bridges in 15 years.
"The BJP promised that the Imphal-Jiribam road will be upgraded to the standard fit for landing aeroplanes, but today, the same highway stretch is in a very pitiable condition," he claimed.
Goshwami also claimed that the BJP led Government, in its election manifesto, assured to end the boundary issue of Manipur, but the same is yet to be materialised.
On Covid management, the MPCC general secretary claimed that the Centre, in the early part of the year, exported Covid vaccine and PPE suits to other Countries as an aid when there was shortage of the same in the country.
Due to vaccine shortage, the gap to be maintained between 1st and 2nd dose was extended upto 12 weeks, he alleged.
Saying that the extent of Covid impact in the country could have been halved had all the adult population been vaccinated in time, he accused Prime Minister Narendra of mismanagement in tackling Covid pandemic.
He, on the other hand, said that handing over of Kangla to the people, raising the standard of Manipur University to a Central University and removal of AFSPA 1958 from seven Assembly segments were all done during the time of Congress governance.
The programme organised by Lamlai Block Youth Congress Committee (LBYCC) and Lamlai Kendra Youth Development Committee (LKYDC) was also attended by an intending candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections from Lamlai AC, Achoibam Deben.
