Imphal, October 29:
A team of the Manipur Olympic Association, MOA led by its president Dr L Joykumar met the state Governor Ved Prakash Marwah today to seek sanction of an amount of Rs 5 lakhs as supplementary budget for the state team which will be participating in the 6th National Games.
MOA representatives, speaking to the media after the meeting, said the Governor was unable to make a definite commitment, citing the acute financial crisis facing the state, but promised that sports would be given the top priority.
The funds shortage faced by the MOA is to the nine of Rs 8 lakhs.
In this connection, the Governor reportedly informed the MOA delegation that some amount will be made available.
During the meeting, the MOA team reminded the Governor that the Manipur team was the overall champion in the last edition of the Games, and for it to march in the opening ceremony at the Punjab National Games would be undignified.
The Governor, on his part, said it was imperative for Manipur to become the national champions this time too.
The MOA has in the meantime sought the help of the public in meeting the funds crunch.
