Healthy heart, healthy life call stressed

Saying that a healthy heart is central to leading a long and healthy life, Health Director Dr O Sanahanbi has appealed to one and all to be aware of the risk factors for heart diseases.
She made the appeal during the World Heart Day cum the closing ceremony of International Week of the Deaf People held at the premises of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Lamphelpat today.
The programme was organised by the State NCD Division, National Health Mission in association with the National Programme of Prevention and Control of Deafness.
At the observance, Dr Sanahanbi continued that the heart is a vital organ which pumps blood carrying oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

Reiterating that the heart must be kept healthy to lead a long and healthy life, the Health Director added that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality globally.
She also said that cases of heart diseases are increasing in Manipur too.
Stress, eating unhealthy diets, using tobacco and living a sedentary lifestyle are some of the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, Dr Sanahanbi said.
Saying that people relying heavily on fast food items, stress and not exercising regularly are some of the big factors which lead to the rise of cardiovascular diseases, Dr Sanahanbi maintained that excessive use of social media is also harmful to health.
She appealed to one and all to eat healthy diets and exercise regularly to keep their hearts healthy.
The programme was held under the theme "Use Heart for Action" .
Health Directorate's Additional Director (Public Health) Dr Chambo Gonmei and Additional Director (Planning) Dr Hemantakumar also attended the programme.
