Imphal, June 29 2012:
Terming it unreasonable which would only drain the State exchequer unnecessarily, the BJP State unit today called on the Governor and lobbied hard against the proposed Parliamentary Secretary Bill.
A team of the BJP State unit led by its president Sh Shantikumar called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan at about 11.30 am.
They urged Governor Gurbachan Jagat not to allow the State Government in appointing Parliamentary Secretaries.
Besides the president, the team included vice-president Prof S Tiken, S Lala, general secretary Kh Radhakishore, secretary media affairs L Basanta.
Speaking to media persons later at the BJP State unit office, Shantikumar asserted that appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries is not in the interest of the State.
Appointment of Parliamentary Secretary would only drain the exchequer of the State which is already enduring financial difficulties.
There is no merit in the Congress Government's initiative and the BJP is deadly opposed to it, he said.
Gurbachan Jagat reportedly stated that he was surprised when he learnt about the appointment of a number of Parliamentary Secretaries in the State of Nagaland.
The Governor also assured that he would work to stop the Government from doing unreasonable things.
The BJP team also handed over a memorandum to the Governor for submission to the President of India highlighting the party's rejection of the report given by a group of interlocutors appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs for Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP rejected the report submitted on October 12, 2011 as it referred POK as PAK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) .
Saying that the interlocutors' report could not bring integrity in Jammu and Kashmir which is an integral part of India, Shantikumar demanded that the agreement signed at Delhi in 1952 should be rejected.
Jammu and Kashmir should be kept at the same status with other States,
he said.
