UPF warns against secret deal

Imphal, August 27 2020: The United People's Front (UPF) Manipur has warned the Government of India not to make any secret deal with NSCN-IM like it did in the past in the forms of extension of ceasefire 'without territorial limits' and Framework Agreement.

The Government of India should always keep in mind that the integrity of Manipur is not negotiable under any circumstances irrespective of whether a new Interlocutor for the Naga peace talks would be appointed or not, said a press release issued by UPF Manipur president W Second.

Pointing out that the people of Manipur are still aggrieved and dismayed over the gifting away of Kabaw Valley (Kyampok Lamjao) to the neighbouring country, the UPF asked if the Government is plotting to further disintegrate Manipur in the name of finding a solution to the Naga peace talks.

By touting weird and outrageous ideas like a State within a State, Supra State, Sixth Schedule, Autonomous Council etc, the Government of India has been scheming to sow seeds of distrust and discord among different communities which have been living together in harmony since ages, it decried.

New Delhi should not take undue advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to seal any secret deal with NSCN-IM, it warned.

At the same time, the State Government should be bold enough to admit its blunders and follies, the UPF asserted.

It was rather surprising and smacked of sheer negligence or deep rooted conspiracy that a policeman named in a drug case was listed among this year's recipients of Chief Minister's Police Medal for Gallantry.

It turned out to be totally contradictory to the Government's 'War on Drugs' campaign, it remarked.

Suspension of some officials is not enough.

The enquiry report should be put in public domain and all the culprits should be penalised, the UPF demanded.

It pointed out that people have been eagerly waiting for delivery of justice in all the multi-crore drug cases.

The UPF was founded on August 28, 1998 and as such, it has already traversed a journey of 22 years.

It then conveyed best wishes to all the people on the occasion of its foundation day.
