Imphal, April 27 2025:
Every problem has a solution, but the BJP-led NDA Government has not put in sincere efforts to resolve the conflict and end the suffering of the people, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said at the launch of the Save Constitution Rally at Congress Bhavan today.
In the nearly 2 years of conflict, many have been killed and people have suffered.
There is President's Rule and the Centre has direct rule over the State.
However, the BJP-led Government has not taken the effort to find a solution to the conflict, asserted the CLP leader.
"Let's stop illegal immigration and enforce war on drugs.
But if persons arrested and accused in drug cases are released, then the war on drugs will have no meaning.
The BJP Government must not do cheap politics.
It wouldn't last long," Ibobi said.
He further asserted that Manipur under the BJP has seen poor development.
There is very little progress with the railway project, Ibobi said.
Years after it was launched, the project has not been completed yet.
There was good progress with the railway project during Manmohan Singh's time as Prime Minister.
Now during the BJP-led NDA Government, there is very little progress, he said.
Ibobi further asserted that the BJP-led Government has always blamed Covid, bandh, blockades and landslides for all their shortcomings and poor progress in the railway and all other development projects.
He accused the BJP of tinkering with the Constitution and tweaking it to suit their whims and fancies and alleged that the BJP is mocking and disrespecting the engineers of the Constitution.
The rally today was launched to save and protect the Constitution and values it represents.
People must defend and save the Constitution, Ibobi said.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) Manipur in-charge, Christopher Tilak, who was present, said there was peace in Manipur during Congress' time.
There is now no rule of law in Manipur under the BJP.
There is violence and the State's economy has suffered.
Youth are unemployed, schools don't have enough teachers, hospitals don't have adequate doctors.
These are results of the BJP's neglect, he said.
Tilak said the women and youths of the State have big roles to play in transforming Manipur.
The people of the State must remove the BJP and bring back the Congress Government, he said.
MPCC president K Meghachandra and other leaders of the Congress took part in the rally.
