Imphal, March 27 2020:
Local people of Porompat Pong Lambi are furious over alleged defiance of quarantine norms by a doctor who has been pursuing PG course at JNIMS.
Notably, the Medical Superintendent of JNIMS had issued an order for sending three doctors who are pursuing PG courses at the same institute for quarantine.
Sources said that the doctor who allegedly defied the quarantine norms had just recently arrived in the State with her mother and are still staying in a rented room at Porompat Pong Lambi.
Locals of Pong Lambi alleged that the said doctor moved to and fro between his rented room and JNIMS multiple times.
As such, local people have expressed serious uneasiness over the doctor's movement and conduct while questioning the concerned authorities whether a doctor or someone who is a staff of JNIMS can defy quarantine norms.
While informing that the doctor was still staying at a rented room along with his mother till this evening, a local went on to question whether the doctor and her mother have been provided with all the essential commodities and whether it can be assumed that he would be staying inside their rented room till the required 14 days.
Meanwhile, Khurai Chingangbam Leikai GP Upa-Pradhan Irom Sunil lamented that the JNIMS authority are still inactive even after the locals complained about the matter.
He further claimed that the locals of Pong Lambi and nearby areas have no discriminatory feeling towards the doctor or any individual and added that their approach is to rule out the risk of spreading COVID-19 in the locality.
It may also be mentioned that an order issued on March 25 by the JNIMS Medical Superintendent had asked JNIMS' HoD Surgery to do the needful and shift the doctor and his mother to the State Quarantine Center opened at Khuman Lampak at the earliest.
