UNC leads in condemning Ukhrul bomb blast

The United Naga Council (UNC) has termed the Ukhrul bomb blast as a barbaric and inhuman act and added that it would not remain a silent spectator.
Strongly condemning the bomb blast in Ukhrul that occurred on January 25, the UNC said that every citizen should strongly condemn it.
The UNC also said that "unknown miscreants" triggered the bomb where four "innocent people were seriously injured" .
It said, "Every citizen should condemn such an act in the strongest terms to stop such culture and whoever is accountable for the act should own responsibility as to why innocent people were targeted" .

The UNC then urged the competent authority to book the perpetrators at the earliest and bring them to justice.
It appealed to all to shun violence of any form in the future so that peace may prevail in the land.
Meanwhile, residents of Ukhrul town on Friday staged a sit-in protest at Gandhi chowk Phungreitang Hunphun/Ukhrul condemning frequent bomb blasts in the district headquarters.
On January 25, one hand grenade exploded at Gandhi chowk, injuring four persons.
The local leaders said that the bomb attack was a barbaric and cowardly act.
They said that the bomb culture will bring no solution but hatred and losses to humanity.
They urged all concerned to shun violence in order to ensure that peace and tranquillity prevail for peaceful coexistence of all communities living in the district.
A joint memorandum of Ukhrul village frontal organisations (Hunphun VAs, Hunphun Executive Council, All Hunphun Tangs Association, Hunphun Shanao Long, Hunphun Katamnao Long) was also submitted to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul.
The memorandum urged the State Government to book the culprits and award them befitting punishment as per the law of the land.
It also sought ex-gratia for the four victims.
Meanwhile, the village leaders of Ukhrul also decried the alleged indifferent attitude shown by the Ukhrul DC and his alleged reluctance to accept the memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister.
Many Tangkhul civil society organizations (Tangkhul Naga Long, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long and Naga Peoples Movement Human Rights (NPMHR) have also vehemently condemned the bomb blast.
