NPP MLAs confer with Conrad at Shillong 'Wait and watch' strategy advised

Imphal, September 26 2020: All the four NPP MLAs namely; L Jayantakumar, N Kayisii, Y Joykumar and Letpao Haokip left Imphal for Shillong today to hold a meeting with party president Conrad Sangma and take a decision on whether NPP would withdraw their support from the BJP-led coalition or still remain within the coalition.

A late report reaching the office of The Sangai Express said that the four NPP MLAs met Conrad Sangma late in the evening at Shillong today.

Though details of the meeting are not yet available, Conrad Sangma is reported to have suggested the four MLAs to adopt the 'wait and watch' strategy.

A source said that the NPP is yet to take a final decision on whether to withdraw from the coalition Government or not.

Just before five new faces were inducted into the Council of Ministers on September 24, six Cabinet Ministers were dropped out.

They are V Hangkhanlian (BJP), Th Radheshyam (BJP), Nemcha Kipgen (BJP), L Jayantakumar (NPP), N Kayisii (NPP) and Karam Shyam (LJP) .

Following the removal of the two NPP MLAs from the Council of Ministers, the party's State unit has been considering whether they should still support the BJP-led coalition or walk out of it.

The four NPP MLAs left Imphal for Shillong to discuss the matter with Conrad Sangma and take a final decision, sources informed.

Earlier, the NPP MLAs went on record saying that they would stay together in the Council of Ministers or they would give up their ministerial berths if any one of them is removed from the Council of Ministers.

Speaking to media persons at Imphal airport today, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar made it clear that the decision taken by NPP National president Conrad Sangma on whether they should remain within the BJP-led coalition or walk out of it would be final and binding for all of them.

The latest political developments would be deliberated minutely at Shillong before taking a final decision.

As of now, there is no question of NPP forging any alliance with other political parties, Joykumar said.

Claiming that NPP is a party of high discipline, its State unit interim president N Kayisii said that all of them would go together with the decision taken by the party's National president, and there would be no place for personal interests or desires.

Whether the two NPP Ministers should remain within the coalition Government or not would be decided by the party's National president, he added.
