Imphal, May 26 2024:
The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union has announced that they will be organising a two-month long campaign under the slogan "Eigi Yumpham Eigi Hak" from June 1 onward to help landless Meeteis get land patta.
MMTU, in a statement, said that the campaign will be carried out at every village in the five valley districts of Manipur, especially at the remote and foothill areas by a ten member team of the union.
Saying that the vision of the campaign is to help the landless Meeteis get land patta through the intervention of the relevant authorities, the union added that they will also submit a memorandum about the issue to the elected leaders.
The union went on to state that they will meet and submit the needed documents to the DCs, SDOs, SDCs and officials concerned of the Revenue and Settlement Department to provide land patta to the landless Meeteis.
Saying that these landless Meeteis don't get any benefits of Government schemes as they don't own any land patta, the MMTU maintained that students also face a lot of problems in education and job related processes as they couldn't produce any copy of receipts of clearing land tax.
The union appealed to all the landless Meeteis to submit land allotment form to the SDCs and also meet them during the campaign.
It appealed to all elected representatives, Government officials and local local clubs to extend support to their campaign.
Stating that the root cause of all these problems lies in the erratic implementation of the MLR&LR Act and the insincerity of the elected representatives and top officials of the Revenue and Settlement Department, MMTU asked all the officials concerned to refrain from withholding land patta after completing all the process just to take some money from those who have submitted land allotment forms.
All these landless Meeteis are poor and they don't have the resources to pay the alleged charges being demanded by the Government officials, the union said and appealed to the State Government and all the relevant authorities to take the matter seriously and do the needful.
Lodge a complaint if any of the Government officials are found taking or demanding bribes, the union said while urging the Government to take actions against corrupt employees.
