The Nungba-Tamenglong People Grievances Joint Action Committee (NTPG-JAC) has called a 48 hour NH-53 blockade from 1 am of Nov 5 as a part of the mass agitation pressing for the fulfillment of four demands.
The decision to impose the blockade was taken during a joint meeting of chairmen and secretaries of the village authorities, public leaders and Nungba Area Public Grievances Forum held on October 23 at Noney.
The JAC was also formed at the meeting.
The committee has demanded a CBI probe into the misappropriation of Rs five crores by two NGOs.
The amount was sanctioned for the development of Tamenglong district by the Union Ministry of Urban Development, John Panmei, Publicity & Information Secretary of the committee stated.
The other demands of the committee are the immediate posting of an MCS officer as SDO of Nungba, the reopening of all offices either closed or withdrawn from Nungba Subdivision and the construction or repairing of roads, bridges and other basic infrastructures in Tamenglong district, he said.
During the blockade, all private and public vehicles including three wheelers will not be allowed to ply along NH-53; the committee stated adding that it shall not be responsible for any untoward incidents arising out of the violation of the blockade.
Security forces and essential services including electricity, water supply, medical, etc.
shall not however be restricted during the blockade, the release added.
The meeting elected 24 office bearers with Jangamlung Panmei, ex-MLA and ex-president, ZU (AMN) as convenor of the committee.
