Imphal, September 25 2019:
With the withdrawal of the no steering protest by the LPG bullet tanker trucks, the Bulk LPG Transporters, Owners and Representatives Association has announced that 50 fully loaded LPG bullet tanker trucks are waiting for the necessary escort to arrive so that they can come to Imphal.
Speaking to media persons, the secretary of the association E Robindro said that a particular LPG driver union imposed the no steering protest from September 7 demanding 80 bullet tanker trucks left out from IOCL tender be inducted.
He informed that during the said protest, bullet tanker trucks under Bulk LPG Transporters, Owners and Representatives Association still transported much needed LPG and other petroleum products to the State in the interest of the people.
However, on September 9, 5 trucks (out of 7 escorted trucks) were detained by some people suspected to be supporters of the protest at Noney.
After necessary information was relayed to the SP of the district, the detained vehicles were let off, he explained.
Then on September 12, a total of 17 empty LPG trucks left the State with security escort.
The fully loaded trucks returned on September 17 but 4 trucks were damaged when they were stoned near Awang Khul, he alleged adding that similarly on September 18, 38 trucks left the State to bring in much needed supplies and during the trip, 2 trucks were damages.
He then informed that 50 fully loaded bullet tankers are currently waiting for the escort to arrive at Jiribam so that they can come back to Imphal and added that in the meantime, an agreement was reached between the involved parties on September 23 and the strike/protest was called off which is laudable.
He then lauded all the drivers, the SP and Additional SP of Noney, SP and OC of Jiribam and the OC of Keithelmanbi for their assistance.
