Mishaps claim three lives

Imphal, June 25 2011:
Atleast two security personnel, one Armyman and the other a policeman were killed when two two-wheelers collided at Khangabok along Imphal-Moreh road stretch of National Highway 39 while a lady nurse, who came driving a Honda Activa lost her life, in another road mishap at Pureiromba Khongnangkhong here.
According to police report, the first incident of collision between a Suzuki Access, borne by two personnel of the Territorial Army and a Bajaj Pulsar driven by two police personnel took place near KM Blooming School at Khangabok at around 8.45 pm yesterday.
The Armyman as well as the Policeman who were on the wheels died while the pillion riders sustained injuries in the mishap.
Moirangthem Arunkumar (32) of Kakching Khunyai Mayai Leikai, who was a personnel in the Territorial Army and driving the Suzuki Access, died on the spot and his colleague identified as Takhellambam Ajit (31) of Kairembikhok Mayai Leikai, who was pillion riding, has been admitted to Shija Hospitals for treatment.
On the other hand, the policeman identified as Ningombam Manojkumar (35) of Thoubal Ningombam Mayai Leikai, who was riding the Bajaj Pulsar when the incident occurred as well as his colleague identified as Ningombam Manaoton (32) of Thoubal Leishangthem Khongmanung, were admitted to Raj Polyclinic in critical condition last night itself.
However, Manojkumar succumbed to the injuries in the wee hours today.
The condition of Manaoton is said to be still critical.
Arunkumar and Ajit were returning from Leimakhong while Manojkumar and Manaoton were going on some errand duties, when the unfortunate incident took place.
Arunkumar was posted together with Ajit at Shillong.
Both of them were coming together in the ill-fated Suzuki Access with one of their colleagues Phijam Lalit (32) in another Bajaj Pulsar.
Lalit escaped unhurt.
police informed that deceased Manojkumar and Manaoton were escort members of Additional SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam of Thoubal district police.
ASP Jogeshchandra has confirmed that both of them had gone together on an errand duty.
Meanwhile, bodies of the deceased Armyman as well as the policeman have been handed over to their respective family members after post-mortem examination at JNIMS today.
Thoubal police station has also registered a case in connection with the incident.
In the second mishap, a lady nurse, who was going for her duty driving a Honda Activa, lost her life when a Scorpio Jeep knocked her down near Pureiromba Khongnangkhong under Porompat police station of Imphal East district at around 6.30 pm yesterday.
The victim has been identified as Wahengbam Ongbi Roma Devi (32) of Thinungei Mayai Leikai but staying in a rented house at Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.
She was a nurse in JNIMS and was going to report for the night duty when the mishap occurred.
The Scorpio Jeep sped away after committing the crime and none could recall the registration number.
She was immediately rushed to JNIMS for treatment in a critical condition but succumbed to injuries at around 8.15 pm.
The post mortem of the deceased nurse was conducted at JNIMS today and later handed over to her bereaved family members.
Along with registering a case, Porompat Police have started an investigation into the incident.
