Senapati, December 24 2024:
Condemning the assault of Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) executives and the vandalisation of their vehicle by Kukis at Gamgiphai on December 22, the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has urged the Government to remove all unauthorized checkposts along the National Highways immediately and address the grievances of the public.
ANSAM said that they are utterly pained and flabbergasted to learn about the reprehensible incident at Gamgiphai.
The Association unequivocally condemned the heinous and obnoxious act perpetrated against the leaders of SDSA which is a cornerstone of ANSAM, it said and added that such barbaric acts of intimidation and humiliation are highly unacceptable and uncalled for in any civilized society.
ANSAM also said that the horrendous act towards the leaders was an insult and direct challenge to all the Naga populace.
Expressing concern and dismay over the repeated breaching of MoUs and agreements signed between the Naga and Kuki civil society organizations by the latter, ANSAM said that Naga people have been patiently enduring unwarran- ted checking, stopping and harassments along the highways especially by Kukis since May 3, 2023 .
As a matter of fact, Nagas and only non-Meitei communities have been traversing along the highways in hill districts, ANSAM added.
The Association urged the relevant authorities to probe the incident and deliver justice to the victims.
It further urged the Government to remove all unauthorized checkposts along the National Highways immediately to address the grievances of the general public.
