Imphal, June 24 2016 :
New Keithelmanbi Namtham-jang Rongmei village secretary R Makudinang has urged the State Government to intervene and resolve the disputes occurring between the villagers of Khonglong Part-2 and Namthamjang.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Makudinang said that the State Government recognised Namthamjang Rongmei village by issuing a gazette notification on October 27, 2007.
Prior to this recognition, one KG Kalung of Khonglong Part-2 filed a land dispute case at the High Court of Manipur in 2004.However, Namthamjang Rongmei village won the case after fighting it for 10 years.
In 2014, the Court disposed the case and gave a ruling that Khonglong was a part of Namthamjang Rongmei village, the village secretary said.
Later, Khonglong villagers pleaded the Namthamjang chief to allow them to settle there.
As such, Khonglong people were allowed to settle in the village after they provided a buffalo and a pot of local brew to Namthamjang village according to the customary law, he said.
On February 15, 2016, Khonglong villagers levelled a serious allegation of siphoning off MGNREGS funds against Namthamjang Village Authority, Makudinang said.
Although, the Government decided to stop providing separate MGNREGS fund for Khonglong as the village had merged with Namthamjang according to the High Court ruling, Namthamjang Village Authority has been meeting and pressing the Government authority concerned to revive fund for Khonglong.
However, Khonglong villagers have been allegedly trying to ignite altercation with Namthamjang villagers over the matter of MGNREGS fund, he said.
As such, the State Government needs to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest, Makudinang said.
