Noney hosts State level Gaan-Ngai festival

The State level Gaan-Ngai festival was held today at Longjang (Thangal) village in Noney district under the theme "Offering of Holy Wine to Almighty God" .
Tamenglong AC MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Nungba AC MLA cum Chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) Dinganglung Gangmei and president of Zeliangrong Union (Assam Manipur & Nagaland) Ajang Rongmei, president of Rongmei Naga People Organisation (Assam Manipur & Nagaland) Sabastian Kamei, vice president of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) Titus Kamei and Director of Tribal Affairs & Hills Hannah Kahmei graced the occasion as chief guest, functional president and guest of honor respectively.

The programme began with a welcome address by Athai Kamei and traditional fire making (Mai-Lapmei) after which traditional drum beating and songs were presented by Thangal and Chinikon villages.
Speaking at the event, Janghemlung said that the Zeliangrong-Inpui community has a rich culture and tradition.
Saying that every Zeliangrong-Inpui person needs to promote their culture and tradition to the younger generations, he said that Noney is the first district to host the State level Gaan Ngai festival.
Dipu Gangmei said that "Chakan Gaan Ngai'' is the festival which brings Zeliangrong-Inpui people under one umbrella.
Advocating unity among Zeliangrong-Inpui people living in different States of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, he added that Zemei, Liangmei, Rongmei, Inpui and Kabui are one and no benefit will come from fighting one another.
Ajang Rongmei, Sabastian Kamei and Titus Kamei also spoke on the occasion and wished all the Zeliangrong-Inpui people a Happy Chakan Gaan Ngai.
Special cultural dances were also presented by Thangal Cultural Dance Troupe and Guluan Cultural Dance Troupe.
Various CSO leaders of Zeliangrong-Inpui community and Kabui Mothers' Association also attended the programme among others.
