Jiribam, September 22 2012: Irate locals of Jirighat (Assam) took to streets today protesting alleged constant harassment meted out by Manipur police commandos.

Two IRB personnel who were injured in a mob attack on security forces were rushed to Silchar Hospital.

The mob blocked the Jirighat-Fulertal road protesting the arrest of Prantik Roy (32) s/o Sibhu Roy of Fulertal, Assam and bashing up of Suman Roy (26) s/o Sunil Roy of Kadamtala, Assam by Manipur police commandos yesterday.

Fulerthal falls under Lakhipur sub-division, Assam.

Additional SP O Menjor, Jiribam Police Station OC L Khogen and a Commando Inspector tried to bring a negotiation with Jirighat Police Station OC, Lakhipur SDPO and Lakhipur ADM in the presence of representatives of Cachar NGOs.

Earlier, Jirighat Police Station personnel fired in the air to control the irate mob which tried to attack Jirighat Police Station.

In this regard, a public was held at Abinash Mitra ME School in which women and student bodies also took part.

Later, Additional SP O Menjor promised the mob that befitting punishment would be given to the involved commando personnel and the whole commando unit would be transferred soon.

He also assured to provide medical expenses to the victims.
