Imphal, July 22 2020:
Breaking all social distancing norms, long queues were seen today at oil pumps in Imphal after reports of possible lockdown circulated among the people considering the surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State.
This scene was all happening even before any order or announcement was made by the Government.
AMUCO president Nando Luwang who is also a member of the Joint Committee on COVID-19, formed by various civil society organizations like UCM, AMUCO, UNC, Zeliangrong Boudi and Kuki Inpi Manipur, speaking to this reporter said, according to his observation, with the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases, people are not taking it seriously anymore.

On the other hand the State Government also seems more interested in counting the increasing number of positive cases instead of working to contain the pandemic, he said.
There is no sign of people following the advisory given by the Government, he said.
Even though the State Government has been putting in a lot of effort, there is still lack of communication between the people and the Government.
People don't seem to have trust in the Government's work, he said.
The Government needs to work transparently in order to gain the trust of the people, he added.
