4 jawans injured in ambush

Imphal, March 22 2015:
At least four personnel including a junior commissioned officer of 2/5 Gorkha Regiment were injured in an ambush launched by suspected militants belonging to NSCN (K) at Luklang Khunou under Khoupum Police Station of Tamenglong district on March 21 .
All the four injured Army jawans are now undergoing treatment at the Leimakhong Military Hospital.
Among them, one is stated to be in critical condition.
Police sources said the incident occurred around 8 am.
Luklang is a dense jungle area which is located about 20 km east of Khoupum Police Station.
The attack occurred when a team from 2/5 Gorkha Regiment led by JCO Chitra Bahadur Chhantyal rushed to the area to flush out a group of armed militants who were moving there.
When the Army team reached the spot, the NSCN (K) militants swiftly triggered a powerful bomb and then started indiscriminate firing on them.
An encounter ensued between the two sides, which lasted for about 45 minutes.
Four Army jawans, including the JCO, were wounded in the exchange of fire, the sources said.
They were later airlifted to Leimakhong Military Hospital.
