No firing at Sugnu post search Ops

After seven days of relentless attack by Kuki militants on the Meitei villages of Sugnu from February 14 to 20, Kuki militants halted their attacks after security forces carried out massive combing operations in Lailoiphai, Dongyang and Sugnu areas on February 28 .
Apart from using sophisticated weapons, Kuki militants bombarded the Meitei villages of Sugnu from February 14 till the morning of February 20.
Two village volunteers and two BSF personnel sustained injuries in the attack.
Moreover, a number of houses were also damaged.
A combined team of BSF and Kakching district police carried out a massive search operation in the Meitei areas of Sugnu on February 20 .
A similar search operation was also carried out by a combined force of CRPF, ITBP and Churachandpur district police in Lailoiphai and Dongyang Kuki villages of Churachandpur district on the same day.
After these search operations, the week-long fighting stopped in Sugnu areas as Kuki militants halted their attack on the Meitei villages.
After flushing out armed groups of both the parties from the area, State forces and Central forces have been stationed at Sugnu, Lailoiphai and Dongyang, and they have been keeping a strict vigil in the area, sources informed.
Nonetheless, two/three rounds of gunshots were heard from the direction of Lailoiphai in the night of February 20.A single shot was heard yesterday too.
Except for these, no more gunshots could be heard in Sugnu area since the search operations, said Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit.
It is said that the combined force of CRPF, ITBP and Churachandpur district police has taken up strong security measures at Lailoiphai and Dongyang villages so as to prevent any misadventure or aggression from the side of Kukis.
