Imphal, October 20 2016:
A large group of students today surrendered their identity cards to the MU Registrar saying that they would like to resign from the studentship of Manipur University.
The students have been staging a protest demonstration in front of MU main gate under the aegis of the JAC Against Implementation of State Reservation Policy in Admission in Manipur University.
The students also took out a protest rally around MU campus this afternoon denouncing the alleged misinterpretation of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012 with regard to admission in Manipur University.
The rally halted briefly in front of the A Block.
A team of student representatives went inside the A Block to meet the VC, the Registrar and the Academic Council members.

After the student representatives came out of the A Block, the protesters headed towards the university's main gate.
Speaking to media persons there, JAC convenor Romen Soibamcha said that 300 of them have surrendered their ID cards to the Registrar apart from highlighting their grievances to the VC and Academic Council members.
Contradictory to the decision adopted by the Academic Council on October 8 which was reaffirmed on October 11, the UGC made an alleged ambiguous statement to the media.
MU has been waiting for the Visitor's (President of India) response to the decision of the Academic Council.
The UGC's statement was vague and it was nothing but humiliation of the Academic Council.
"We have made clear it to the MU authority that we would continue with different forms of agitation until our demand is fulfilled", Romen said.
Notably, the UGC Secretary stated that Manipur University may follow the reservation policy in admission in all courses as per provisions contained in the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act 2006 and as amended in 2012 .
It has been quite sometime that a vexed reservation row has been plaguing MU.
After ST students left their hostels and MU campus, another group of students left their hostels today.
Now all the hostels look deserted, informed a source.
