Longest under trial prisoner in Sajiwa Jail freed

The longest under trial prisoner of Manipur, lodged in Sajiwa Jail was set free by the Sessions Judge, Imphal East today evening.
Suffering from bouts of mental disorder, 73 year old Saikhom Ramo Singh son of (L) S Kalachand Singh of Khurai Sajor Leikai was arrested on the charge of murdering his mother on October 7, 1982 .
He was booked under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and an FIR 329 (10) 1982 was lodged against him.
Initially imprisoned in Manipur Central Jail, Imphal, he was subsequently transferred to Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
The younger brother of Ramo and his grand nephews received him on his being released from jail today evening, said a source.
