Works Minister Th Biswajit has stated that sports is a noble profession for many in the contemporary world.
Addressing a launch function of a one-day State level sports seminar at Hotel Imphal, the Minister continued that Manipur, though small in size, is known for producing many sporting talents and capability to win laurels in international events.
He also said that the BJP led Government in the Centre gave green signal to build National Sports University (NSU) in the State acknowledging the competence of North East people in the field of games and sports.
Once the University is built, it will not only generate employment opportunities but also increase sporting activities and values in the State, Biswajit said and opined that increasing sporting activities will also instill discipline among the youth.
Saying that Manipur is a big player in terms of sports in the country, the Minister urged all to start sports movements from their homes to produce more world class athletes and also shape the future of Manipur.
Convenor of BJP Sports Cell, W Ibomcha said that the seminar was organised to encourage State players/athletes as the State's performances in games and sports seems to be declining.
Manipur is called the powerhouse of sports of India because of its remarkable contribution to the country in the field of sports, he added.
The seminar was also attended by BJP State unit president S Tikendra; chief spokesperson, Ch Bijoy and MLA Dr Y Radheshyam.
