National and State awardees felicitated ; Memorial gallery to be set up

Thongam Sajou Memorial Trust feted 250 National and State awardees today at a programme held at MFSDS auditorium, Palace Gate.
The 250 awardees including recipients of Padma Shri, State Kala Akademi, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahita Akademi and Lalit Kala Akademi etc were honoured with a cash prize of Rs 5000, a citation and a shawl each by the Thongam Sajou Memorial Trust.
Speaking at the programme, Works Minister Th Biswajit said a memorial gallery dedicated to National and State awardees will be set up in the State.
Th Biswajit added that the trust was formed in 2012 and had been engaged in providing pension and assistance to widows and differently abled individuals.

The trust has also been providing a monthly pension to senior citizens who are yet to get the 'aged pension', he said.
The Works Minister added that starting this year, the trust will honour artistes and awardees in the month of January every year as a mark of showing support to the art and culture of the State.
Regarding the memorial gallery to be dedicated to the awardees, Th Biswajit said the gallery will preserve audio and visuals of various artistes for the future generation.
The decision to set-up the gallery has been taken by the trust in order to preserve the art and culture of the State, he added.
