Six more ILP defaulters held

Imphal, December 18 2024:
Three weeks after police arrested 29 Inner Line Permit defaulters, 6 more persons without the permit have been arrested this morning.
Three other ILP defaulters were also arrested on December 17 .
The six non-locals were arrested by the City Police from different parts of Imphal.
They have been identified as Jaikisun Prasad (48) of Ganesh Dumar, Gopalganj, Bihar at present staying at Nagamapal; Govinda Kumar (22) of Ageyan, Siwan, Bihar at present staying at Nagamapal; Saptam Paul (24) ofDalo, Karimganj, Assam at present staying at Khoyathong Road; Lavkush Kumar (33) of Belahri, Buxar, Bihar at present staying at Nagamapal; Pongal Ram (41) of Chandpura, Bihar at present staying at Khuyathong; and Surendra Kumar (20) of Bairagania Balganj Sitamari.
After the arrests, the six individuals were produced before the SDM Imphal by the City Police.
The Executive Magistrate convicted them for not possessing valid ILP and imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 each.
The Magistrate ordered the police to push them back upto Mao Gate.
The individuals were also directed to report at the Inner Line Permit Cell/Unit Mao Gate for further formalities.
Notably, the detection of the six ILP defaulters came weeks after the police arrested and deported 29 non-locals on November 30 .
The 29 ILP defaulters were found staying at Mayang Imphal Bengoon.
While the 29 individuals were found possessing Aadhaar cards and other documents showing they were from Assam, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had then said that the authorities suspect that they hail from Bangladesh.
After the detection, one State Government officer involved in issuing the ILP passes fraudulently was reportedly suspended.
The State Government celebrated 5 years of Inner Line Permit recently on December 9 .
The Inner Line Permit came into effect in Manipur on December 11, 2019 .
