Monitoring poll expenditure discussed

A meeting of Deputy Commissioners of all districts of Manipur was held today with Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawmkunga in the chair.
The meeting deliberated on monitoring election expenditures of the candidates preparing to contest the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections which are likely to be held in February next year.
An official source informed that the meeting held in the conference hall of Old Secretariat discussed on how to check the use of black money by candidates and also to reduce their poll-related expenditures.
Since the Election Commission is likely to announce the exact dates for the Manipur Legislative Assembly elections next month, the CEO directed all the DCs to formulate district election plans within the current month.
The CEO also asked the DCs to work out the strength of manpower that would be required for monitoring poll-related expenditures.

For the forthcoming elections, the Election Commission would depute observers to every district in addition to assistant observers for each and every Assembly Constituency.
Moreover, one Magistrate and one videographer would be stationed in every police station to check transportation of cash.
Flying squads would also be set up to control distribution of cash during and before the elections.
On the other hand, the total number of voters in Manipur has reached 16,77,270.The number of voters enlisted anew this year is 1,76,164.At the same time, names of 30,563 voters who have expired have been removed from voter lists.
Out of these total voters, compilation of photo electoral rolls has been completed for 15,95,906 voters.
Meanwhile, action plan for Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation has been given to Deputy Commissioners, conveyed the source.
